I've identified the chords, and all the single notes on both the guitar and bass.  I have not tried actually playing them.  I noticed that the Fdim chord is aligned slightly to the left of where it should be, but this seems like a typo.  I also noticed that "sullen" is replaced with "secret", and this seems significant.  The word "hex" seems to clue a hexidecimal coding somewhere, but I don't know where.

I also noticed that whenever a chord is played on the guitar, the bass plays an E.  When the guitar plays notes, the bass sometimes plays E and sometimes F.  Morse seemed promising (E and F between chords) but didn't get me anywhere.

That's pretty much where I am.  Hint, please!

Oh, hi.

You don't need to play the notes. Any alignment issues are accidental. The lyrics should be the same on both sheets (I dug up old versions to post online and may have grabbed the wrong files), but sullen vs. secret shouldn't effect the solve. Sorry for the false significance.

There's no morse. It is worth noting the bass only plays 0's and 1's (though Greg immediately thought binary and told me I should add a meta message there. It would have been more impressively elegant, but a tough rewrite for a puzzle most people wouldn't see).

The hex hint is the right lead. The first line of lyrics is also a push. And the how-to in the handbook specifically tells you how to play the first 10 notes on a guitar. Does that help?

Yep, that did it.  Thanks!
